As you may have noticed, people who had registered for the Dota 2 beta on the official dota2.com website were sent an e-mail by Valve a few days ago. This e-mail linked to a survey, where hardware and Dota related information was polled (there is also a blog post by Valve, linking to the survey).

Today Valve has sent out the first batch of keys to a small percentage of the users who took the survey. If you were lucky enough, you should have gotten a message (via e-mail and/or Steam). Each of the invited players also got two (2) extra keys to give away to anyone they want to!

Beta testers prior to this date will receive additional keys as well, according to IceFrog himself:

Cardchoices:
Dragons are known to make a game slow paced and/or one-sided as hell, due to their immense costs and the player’s early vulnerabilty, until he drops those fire giants. I tried to deal with this issue by adding impactful T1 drops like Lightning Bolt, to take out early aggressors and tickle the enemy. Skirk Prospector lets us block and gives mana, while Goblin Welder could exchange destroyed artifacts (like our Urza’s Incubator or the dragons) with Great Furnace on the battlefield.

Kargan Dragonlord is a well-scaling T2 drop, which can be level’d easily with Koth of the Hammer‘s mana-ability or our other manaboosts like Seething Song. Geosurge cannot level the Dragonlord, but it allows us to cast several creatures at once (or one fat one). Dragonspeaker Shaman and Urza’s Incubator lower the costs of our dragons significantly. Blood Moon blocks non-red decks quite effectively. ^^

While we can drop Moltensteel Dragon very early, Steel Hellkite allows us to damage enemies pretty hard and even blast away their permanents. Bogardan Hellkite can be used as a surprising nuke and high damage output.

Matchups:
vs. Faery Control – fast control deck, god I hate this matchup
Game 1: I had a decent hand and kept it, but my spells came way to slow and so he was able to counter nearly everything I casted until his faeries dropped me to zero life points.
Game 2: Perfect hand cards. T1: Skirk Prospector, T2: Seething Song + Moltensteel Dragon. After I dropped him to ~10 he quit the game because he couldn’t handle it.

vs. BR Vampires – damn cheap vampires and an insane amount of spot removal (shoutout to my brother Jakob!)
I don’t remember the games exactly (about five matches), but I lost the majority of them due to the spot removal, which is a weakness of this deck. :(
